This intriguing piece beautifully displays Yaacov Agam's unique perception of art and his revolutionary style, which relied upon the utilization of movement and the fourth dimension in order to gain a complete understanding of his compositions.
Using a serigraph with a moveable grill juxtaposed over it, Agam creates a Multigraph in which different compositions are created as the viewer moves the grid: "Resulting images vary from simplicity to extreme complexity, while at all times the work of art contains within it a myriad of hidden possibilities." (Solomon, pg. 29).
Agam spent a considerable amount of time designing each Multigraph and his accomplished aim was "a work of art that is not damaged by the continued touching and physical movement of its audience." (Soloman, pg.29). Agam brilliantly demonstrates this in this particular piece with the awareness that each viewer should become an active participant in their adventure with art.
Created in 2006, this multigraph is from Festival Series. It is hand signed by Yaacov Agam (Rishon LeZion, 1928 - ) in blue marker in the lower right margin and numbered 17/99 on verso in blue ink.
