Historical Description

Victor Vasarely Dyok Positif, 1967 depicts a contemporary geometric white grid that rests against a purple and green background in this minimal yet stunning work. Vasarely's ingenious skill is exquisitely visible in this monochromatic white wooden multiple. While the palette is simplified, the solid white surface emphasizes the sculptural details within the works, accentuating shape, placement, and depth. Like other multiples from this series, this period of production is referred to as Vasarely's Expansive Regressive or Universal Structures vocabulary. It is characterized by deep undulating surfaces or plains, fantastic color modulations, and checkerboard grids.

Created in 1967, this hand painted wood relief is hand signed by Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997) in blue ink on the Éditions Denise René label adhered to the reverse. Numbered 16/50 on the label; from the total edition of 50 published in 1967.
