Roy Lichtenstein Bedroom, 1991 from the Interior series takes the mundane and turns it into something exciting. Pictured here is the corner of a bedroom – from the perspective of the viewer we see a corner of the bed, the armrests of a rocking chair and two windowed areas. On the left side the large window is covered by vertical blinds, and on the right a forest green curtain is pulled back to reveal panes of glass. Two bands of white of different thickness play across the window, creating a sense of light shining into the room. Hanging on the wall, in an interested take on meta-art, is a work of Lichtenstein’s own style! Those familiar with his work will recognize this as from the Imperfect series. It is a delight to find one Lichtenstein hidden within another. The same blue color is used around the room, for the walls, window and bed. This brings cohesiveness to the image, and also allows for stand out moments like the yellow rocking chair and the Imperfect painting on the wall. Lichtenstein also employs his characteristic ben-day dots on the ceiling of the room, both creating color and texture.
