Renoir Le chapeau épinglé (The Hat Secured with a Pin), c. 1898; Depicting a serene view of two young women posing for their portrait, this extremely delicate work expresses the beauty and elegance of Renoir's portraiture. The two girls don fashionable dresses and large, flowery hats. The figure on the right denies the viewer a glimpse of her lovely face, turning with her back towards the viewer in order to arrange the hat on her friend. Her friend sits to the left, a contemplative look upon her face as she quietly awaits the completion of her outfit. Wonderfully executed, this work is a strong example of the impressionist reflection on life as that of light and beauty.
Created c. 1898, this work is signed in the stone in black by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841-1919) in the lower right. Also signed Renoir at lower left. This color lithograph is from the edition of 200, printed on Arches Ingres laid paper MBM laid paper with the MBM watermark.
