Pablo Picasso Peintre et modéle au fauteuil à bascule (Painter and model on rocking chair), 1965, is an expressive linocut that celebrates the beauty of the female form through which Picasso has created one of his most intriguing prints.
Created using one block printed in black, the lines carved out of the linoleum have been printed in white, producing an effective aura of subtle grace and balanced composition. With traces of his cubist style, Picasso has invited us into this intimate scene of painter and model. The viewer’s perspective is that also of the painter’s, which gives insight into the intricate dynamics between a painter and model. A closeness and understanding between the two are effortlessly translated by Picasso in the expressions on their faces.
