Pablo Picasso Le Thé: Deux Femmes Nues et une Chat (The Tea: Two Naked Women and a Cat), 1965is a intense black and white linocut that captures Picasso's artistic skill in this printing medium. The composition features two nude women, one reclining in the left side of the work, and the other taking up the right side. There is also a small cat outlined in the bottom of the work. Picasso's uses swirling lines in contrast with sharp angles to create an intricate design full of energy and texture. He makes great use of the negative space created by the lines and this allows the viewer to fill in every inch of the work with visual value. Picasso was a pioneer in the field of printmaking, using techniques in new and unusual ways to create never before seen linocuts, lithographs, etchings and aquatints. This linocut is a perfect example of how Picasso made the printmaking technique work for him and created something uniquely Picasso-esque.
