Pablo Picasso Jeune Homme couronné de feuillage (Young Man with a Crown of Vines), 1962 is a wonderful cubist portrait rendered in rich black, brown, and beige. The features of the young man, trace in graceful black lines, are abstracted in Picasso's unqiue style, elongating the slope of the nose, exaggerating the Grecian curve of the chin, and accenting one large, eye-lash framed pupil. His head is adorned with a snaking wreath, the curls of which echo the young man's ear, lips, and eyelids. There is a liveliness to the entire portrait, achieved through the quick curves of lines, and the simple playfulness of the abstracted face.
Created in 1962, this color linocut on Arches paper is hand-signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 – Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right. Numbered from the edition of 50; this work was published by Louise Leiris, Paris and printed by Arnéra, Vallauris.
