Pablo Picasso Reclining Woman and a Man with a Guitar (Femme couchée et homme à la guitare), 1959; Distinctly sharp features and an air of femininity add to this exquisite color linoleum cut by Pablo Picasso. Boldly composed with rich dark tones and opaque shapes, this piece evokes a sense of beauty and sensuality. The woman is defined by the paler brown as well as a lacy web of sweetly curving lines that accentuate her womanly form. The man is less detailed in comparison, composed more of block-like shapes than delicate lines. Utilizing simple shapes and lines to create complex imagery, Picasso's abstract technique takes on a multitude of layers in this work.
Created in 1959, this original linocut or linoleum cut is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right margin. Printed by Arnéra, Vallauris and published by Louise Leiris, Paris, this work is numbered from the edition of 50.
