In a rather touching rendering, the bull portrayed by Picasso in this work stands alone in the center as onlookers appear to gaze at him. There are no picadors present and the arena space seems peaceful, as if the bull is ready to let his guard down. He is a majestic animal in his white outline with black shadowing and beautiful brown detailing, an execution made with such feeling that one can't help but stare in awe.
Created in 1948, this white earthenware clay rectangular dish is with decoration in engobes under glaze (red, green, black, white) is from the edition of 450. Featured on the verso are the inscribed stamps 'Madoura Plein Feu' and 'Edition Picasso'.
