Utilizing the simplistic design motifs frequently found in his ceramics, Picasso creates an exquisite plate that plays with our notion of what is functional and what is art. Monochromatic and simplistic in design, this remarkable work says more with less. Raised lines in relief define the eyes, pointed nose, and smiling mouth of this lovely face, as Picasso once again exemplifies his talent at conveying human expression. With one eye open and the other appearing partially closed, we gather the impression that this delightful face is winking at us.
Created in 1960, this round plate of white earthenware clay is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
