An older looking bird sits placidly in the center of the plate in Pablo Picasso Ceramic Oiseau No. 76 (Bird No. 76), 1963 A.R. 481. Slightly hunched, the weary traveler rests, two feet on the ground. Its feathers look ruffled, as if it's been through some trouble. Despite this, an air of calm overtakes the image. Peculiar red dots mark the left limb of the bird - signature markings or the hand of the artist? Looking at the bird, one must wonder it's history - where has it been, and where it is going to go next?
Created in 1963, this Madoura round plate of white earthenware clay with decoration in engobe (white, black, red) and enamel under partial brushed glaze with black patina is from the edition of 200. This work inscribed on the back "EDITION PICASSO" and "MADOURA."
