Despite its title, this 'Face with Green Nose' does not have an obvious green nose, though the nose is certainly the most exaggerated facial feature, conveyed through bold tonal contrasts of black and red-brown. Majestic, monumental, and daring are all words that can describe this piece, both in terms of subject matter and aesthetic value. The subject appears slightly upset yet curious at the same time, donning an expression that is difficult to pinpoint.
Created in 1968-1969, this red earthenware clay square plaque printed with engobe pad (black) is from the edition of 200. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
