Pablo Picasso Cubist Face, 1968 A.R. 566 features an amalgamation of human facial features arranged irregularly within the outline of a square on this square-shaped ceramic plaque. The eyes, nose, and mouth of the face are near to where they would normally reside on a human face, but their stylized rendering befits the namesake of the work. In this way, the individual facial features are less like the parts of a face and more like incidental decorative elements. A deep rich black covers the surface of the plaque with only the lines of the face revealing the warm terracotta hue beneath it. Pablo Picasso Cubist Face, 1968 A.R. 566 is a compelling ceramic portrait that demonstrates how much the renowned artist could achieve with mere line.
Created in 1968, Pablo Picasso Cubist Face, 1968 is a square plaque of red earthenware clay printed with an engobe pad. This work is from the edition of 200.
