A cartoon man stands before us smoking in what would otherwise be a lifeless portrait, that Picasso turns it into a charming caricature. With captivating eyes and puckered lips, surrounded by green hair framing his thin face, this man has a personality that matches his outlandish features. Perhaps a reflection of himself or an alter-ego (they say art is the perfect form of therapy), there is perhaps no better chameleon of a man than Picasso.
Created in 1964, this work is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right margin, and is numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left margin. Dated in the plate 22 août 64, this work is part of the Galerie Louise Leiris edition. The work was printed by Pennequin on d'Auvergne Richard de Bas paper and published by Crommelynck.
