Mr. Brainwash Je t'aime, 2018 is bold and inviting that engages you immediately upon viewing. Bright, alternating flashes of red and white burst from the sheet, guiding your eye through the chaos. Mr. Brainwash’s use of fragile transportation stickers with juxtaposing text that reads, “JE T’AIME” asserts that the temporal state of high-stake emotions is a delicate, fleeting feeling that requires special care and attention. Using black spray paint, he makes a deliberate choice to whimsically illustrate the text as legible as possible, allowing the wet paint to spill and drip down. Acting as a metaphor for the fragility of love and the delicate underside, he reveals through this work that something beautiful can be created out of almost nothing. By mixing pop art and graffiti, Mr. Brainwash compels us to look and think outside the box, to contemplate the playful graffiti writing he has used to punctuate the emphasis on the allusion of human fragility.
Created in 2018, this spray paint and stickers on plywood is hand-signed by Mr. Brainwash (Garges-lès-Gonesse 1966 -) in ink. This is a unique and original work.
