Marc Chagall's Paris Dream (Le rêve de Paris), 1969-70 depicts at beautifully serene and elegant Parisian scene basked in a soft glow of pink light, with our ponderous lovers looking over the cityscape below. The prominent Eiffel Tower anchors the composition on the left, colored in a vivid forest-green, a perfect color complement to the pinks, light blues, and oranges throughout. It is a perfect springtime scene that Chagall is able to convey with blossoming flowers and picnicking Parisians along the banks of the River Seine. The famous icons of Paris can be seen, spotting the horizon, from the towers of the Nôtre Dame Cathedral on the Ile-de-la-Cité to the beautiful dome of the Sacré-Coeur Cathedral in Montmarte; Paris Dream is truly reminiscent of a Paris that we all yearn for – a romantic getaway that is captured through Chagall’s vivid imagination.
Created in 1969 – 1970, this color lithograph is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered from the edition of 75 in pencil in the lower left margin. Printed on Arches wove paper, this work is published by Maeght, Paris.
