This fanciful piece appears otherworldly, as if the viewer is witnessing a dream. A lovely woman sits to the lower left gazing at a bowl of fruit, the bouquet of brilliant red flowers is a centerpiece on her table. In the background to the right, the viewer witnesses a couple on horseback. The two figures appear as if riding the horse inside a large, lofty building, gazing out of the window at the vibrant yellow sun that illuminates them, casting a yellow aura around the figures. The viewer imagines that perhaps the woman in the foreground is the same as the woman in a background, captured between two worlds, that of reality and that of fantasy.

Created in 1970, this color lithograph is printed on watermarked Arches paper. This work is hand-signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left margin. Printed by Mourlot, Paris.
