Displaying a large colorful bouquet on the left and a plentiful basket of ripe fruit on the right, this work conveys a sense of warmth and plentitude that traditionally characterizes the months of spring and summer. However, this work was executed in the month of November; therefore, this work could be interpreted as the artist's day dream of the coming summer months. Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887- Saint-Paul, 1985) adeptly inspires a sense of relaxation with the lose handling of color and form animating the image for the viewer. This work is extremely rare as it is one of his works that is most vibrant in coloration. This image conveys a sense of warmth, love and tranquility and ease. This work displays Chagall's expressive definition of form and volume as well as his adept understanding of color.
Created in November of 1964, this work is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887- Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered in roman numerals XVII/XXV in pencil in the lower left margin (aside from the total edition of 50 signed and numbered proofs). Printed by Charles Sorlier (Mourlot, Imp., Paris) on Véline d'Arches paper.
