Placed against a beautifully textured green background, Miró's playful forms come to life. Through his use of delicate lines and bold color, he creates a surreal environment that radiates with enchantment and delight. The composition is beautifully balanced between vertical, horizontal, and diagonal forms that create a subtle arch. The viewer cannot clearly pinpoint distinct figures, yet certain lines and shapes resemble faces and bodies, leaving the formation of the figures entirely up to the viewer's imagination. These forms appear to dance and float around their own, personal wonderland with smiles on their faces, carefree and full of joy.
Created in 1950, this original color lithograph with hand-applied pochoir was created after the original 1949 oil painting. This work is hand-signed and dated by Joan Miró (1893-1983) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered 118/300 in pencil in the lower left margin.
