Joan Miró Les Essències de la Terra, 1968 combines poetic lyricism with artistic interpretation. Based on the written work of Juan Perucho and 8 ancient Catalonian texts, the lithograph plays with character and story-telling. This art work also honors Miró’s Catalonian heritage. In the center is a curious figure, with big eyes and limbs extending in all directions. The figure is encircled by a crisp, blue border. Above the figure is a bold red stroke, adding a sense of movement to the entire scene. The artist hand-colored the work using watercolor and crayon, it is this personal touch which ensures its value.
Created in 1968, this color lithograph with hand-applied water color and crayon is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right. From the edition of 100, published by Ediciones Poligrafa, Barcelona and printed by Mourlot.
