Joan Miró Les Essències de la Terra, 1968 combines poetic lyricism with artistic interpretation. Based on the written work of Juan Perucho and 8 ancient Catalonian texts, the lithograph plays with character and story-telling. In the center is a curious figure, its big eyes and limbs extending in all directions. The figure is decorated with dots and the star shape typically seen in Miró’s artworks. Surrounding this whimsical character is a bold, red circle. The circle was hand-painted by Miró using watercolor. The artist’s hand is clearly displayed, increasing the value of this work. These personal touches allow the viewer to experience a closer connection to the artist.
