Joan Miró’s Le Lezard aux plumes d’or (The Lizard with Golden Feathers), Pl. 10, 1971 is a beautiful showing of Miró’s mastery of color and shape. The composition centers on a large black circle that grows darker towards the center, which is filled with two bright pops of red and orange. The circle is surrounded by colorful dots of all the colors of the rainbow. As you move away from the black ring in the middle, Miró has formed amorphous shapes of all colors that seem to swirl around the composition. The shading throughout the work is grainy and transparent, like the effect crayons give when one glides them across paper. This causes the work to have a child-like nostalgia to it, reminding the viewer of the joys of coloring and drawing without any preconceptions of art or rules. Miró is known for his brilliant work in abstracted forms and he is able to deconstruct ideas down to simple shapes and colors that are easy for anyone to enjoy.

Created in 1971, this lithograph is hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left margin.
