A large, black form monopolizes the center of the composition, small geometric shapes are attached at the corners to create a complex silhouette. Utilizing bright primary colors red, yellow, and blue, Miro creates a motif made from bold forms, painterly gestures, and frail suggestions of stars energize the work with its rich variety. Refreshing splashes of color emerge without overpowering the composition that provide visual interest and further a feeling of natural easiness. In expert style, Miró combines all of these playful elements to create an artwork that conveys and celebrates a tremendous joy of life that is both intoxicating and contagious.

Created in 1975, Joan Miró Les Montagnards VIII, from the Suite Les Montagnards, 1975 is an etching and aquatint on Arches wove paper that is stamped with the authentication stamp of the Succession Miró in the lower right margin and signed in pencil by Emilio F. Miró on the reverse. This work is numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the bottom left margin, there were also 10 artist prints. Published by Daniel Lelong, Paris.
