Partie de Campagne V (A Day in the Country V), 1967, relaying a sense of celebration and joy, this large, vibrantly colored print instantly commands the attention of a room. This whimsical piece is composed of criss-crossing, thin black lines, arrows, and stars placed against bright patches of color. Dominating the composition are two large areas of color, one green and one red. Both appear as if airbrushed on, with brighter, thicker applications of color in the center and lighter specks of color towards their outer rims, as if they are surrounded in a soft halo of color. To the lower right, a lattice like figure appears as if gazing out at the viewer with two cross-eyed eyes. One finds it difficult to focus on a single component of this wonderfully captivating work, as each figure appears strikingly unique yet interacts perfectly with those around it.
Created in 1967, this original color etching and aquatint is hand-signed in pencil by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in the bottom right margin and numbered from the edition of 75 (from the total edition of 75 numbered and signed prints plus some artist's proofs) in pencil in the lower left margin. This work was published by Maeght Éditeur, Paris and printed by Arte Adrien Maeght, Paris.
