Originally published as an alluring portfolio of 13 prints bearing the name of Miró's birthplace, this series of engravings in etching, aquatint and carborundum is notable for its images traced in color and texture. The use of heavy carborundum , produced by slathering a cement-like mixture on the printing plate, creates an embossed effect. Miró's creative use of this technique lends additional depth to his graphic works. Three delicate stars, a signature of the artist's style, emphasize the triangular aspect of this poetically sparse composition. Linear colored elements create a sense of flux in the abstract image, animating the entire page. The simplicity and confidence of Miró's draftsmanship make this a key piece for any collection of his work.
Created in 1973, this color etching and aquatint with carborundum was published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona and printed by J.J. Torralba, Barcelona on Guarro paper. Bearing a hand-written inscription and signature by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right, this print is numbered 42/50 in the lower left. A number of various artist's proofs and hors commerce copies exist outside of the numbered edition.
