In Greek mythology, Gaia is the personification of Earth. She is the creator and giver of birth to the Earth and all of the Universe, and here Braque beautifully represents her in a Grecian profile of gold. A delicate medium to work in, he shows her surrounded by a background of green and blue which represents the earth and water. A showcase of his skills as an artist, this pin is captivating in person and rare in his oeuvre.
This beautiful brooch is engraved with Georges Braque’s (Argenteuil-sur-Seine, 1882- Paris, 1963) jewel signature "Bijoux de Braque" on the reverse, along with the title of the work, “GAIA”. Numbered from the edition of 75, this brooch is made of 18k yellow gold.
