Historical Description

Georges Braque L'Aquarium; Two charming fish flit about their transparent home against a vibrant background of bright yellow and lime-green. Braque contrasts bold, luminous colors with earthy brown tones to create a delightful piece that conveys a sense of joy and playfulness. The two fish, composed of geometric and linear forms, pop out against the brilliantly colored background. Braque utilizes line and shadow to add depth to the piece, creating a three-dimensional bowl that rests upon a flat surface, with a candlestick placed nearby.

Created c. 1950, this color etching was based on an original painting by Georges Braque (1882-1963). This piece is hand signed by Georges Braque (1882 - 1963) in pencil in the lower right margin and annotated 'E.A.' in pencil (aside from the edition of 160) in the lower left margin. This work was published by Maeght, Paris.
