Andy Warhol’s Sunset, 1972 portfolios show off the artist's incredible skill in color theory. Warhol had an impressive eye for captivating color combos. Printing the same simple image of a small round sun sinking over the horizon over and over in hundreds of unique color palettes, Warhol really flexes his creative prowess. His talent for creating visually interesting works in color stems from his early work in commercial design. The powerful colors in his Sunset portfolios makes these compositionally simple prints incredibly captivating. Moving away from naturalistic sunsets, Warhol lets his imagination run wild with unusual colors. Sunset, 1972 FS II.88 features a burning red sun melting into a pink horizon. The skies are bright pinks and reds fading into burnt orange. This is a warm and eye catching color combination.
