Andy Warhol Beethoven, 1987 FS II.391 features an unconventional portrait of the famous musical composer in a muted color palette. The subtle tones Warhol chooses for this print differs from the bright and ostentatious colors of the rest of the portfolio. Warhol overlays the sheet music of Beethoven's Sonata No. 14 on top of the composer's likeness, which emphasizes the music that brought Beethoven world fame. It makes sense that Warhol would want to focus on Beethoven's celebrity, as the artist was fascinated with all things celebrity and fame. This portfolio of portraits of the famous composer fits in seamlessly with his other works of famous people, a subject he returned to again and again.
