Katz effortlessly recreates the feeling of a Degas work, with his focus on a woman in an elegant dance pose. Though inspired by Degas, Katz clearly infuses the work with his own unique style. Visible brushstrokes, bright opaque colored backgrounds and a flattening of shadows are hallmarks of Katz iconic portraiture. The eye popping lime green contrasts beautifully with the dancer’s skin and the warm brown of her hair. The simplicity of the work accentuates the dancer’s graceful pose and her serene expression.
